Kiri oroshi (Downward cut with sword)
Tori and Uke are facing each other. Tori is 1m from the centre of the mat. Uke is 2m from the centre of the mat. Uke pulls out the sword. He assumes the Seigan no kamae position. Right foot forward, sword pointing at Tori's eyes (fig. 1). Uke takes a tsugi-ashi step forward (right foot, left foot). Tori moves backwards in the same manner (left foot, right foot). Uke steps forward with his left foot and lifts the sword over his head. He assumes the Jôdan no kamae position (fig. 2). The sword should be held at an angle of approximately 45 degrees (a bit wrong on the picture). Hands are held just over the head. Uke steps forward with his right foot and tries to cut Tori in two pieces. Tori steps to the side to avoid the cut. He then pulls Uke's arm (fig. 3) and walks towards Uke's left front (right foot, left foot, right foot). Tori applies an Ude hishigi hara gatame and strangles with his left hand (fig. 4). Uke cannot keep the grip around the hilt of the sword with his left hand. Uke taps with his left hand on Tori's left leg. When Uke moves back, he twists the sword so that the edge is away from both Tori and Shômen.
