Nuki gake (Sword unsheating)

Uke kneels down in front of his weapons. He has his back against Tori. He crosses his hands and picks up the sword with both hands. Uke uses both hands, because on real swords there is a string hanging from the scabbard. Uke puts the sword in is belt on his left side. The edge of the sword is upwards. The hilt of the sword should be straight in front of Uke's navel.

Uke stands up, turns around and walks towards Tori. Tori and Uke are facing each other.

Uke twists the imaginary scabbard of the sword with his left hand, so that the edge of the sword is downwards, to the left (fig. 1). Uke begins to pull out the sword from the scabbard with his right hand. Uke attempts to slash Tori with a kesa giri, from Tori's lower right side up through Tori's left shoulder.

Tori steps forward with his right foot. He stops Uke's arm with his right hand (fig. 2). Tori then moves his rigth foot to the outside, close to Uke's right heel. Tori moves his left foot next to his right foot. Tori now stands behind Uke. Tori moves his left hand from behind over Uke's left shoulder. He grips Uke's right lapel on the front. Tori moves his right forearm under Uke's right arm. He lifts Uke's right arm (fig. 3). Tori applies a left Kata-ha jime. He moves his left foot backwards and pulls Uke backwards (fig. 4). Tori's chest is against Uke's back. Uke's balance is completely broken to the back. Uke cannot escape. He submits by stamping with his right foot on the mat.

Tori and Uke return to their positions. Uke move backwards.
