Yoko-uchi (Side blow)

Tori and Uke are facing each other. Uke steps forward with his right foot. (Note: Uke does not take two steps here like he would do in Nage no kata). Uke tries to strike at Tori's left temple with the little finger side of his right fist (fig. 1).

Now, Tori steps forward with his left foot. He moves his head under Uke's strike (like in Idori). Tori puts his right hand against Uke's left shoulder. He pushes Uke off-balance like in O soto gari (fig. 2).

Tori moves his right foot in behind Uke's heels (like in Tsukkake earlier in the Tachi-ai section). Tori applies a left Okuri eri jime (fig. 3). He moves his left leg backwards and pulls Uke backwards. Tori puts the top of his head against the back of Uke's neck. Uke's balance is completely broken to the back.

Uke grabs Tori's left upper arm with both his hands. He tries to pull Tori's arm down to release the pressure (fig. 4). Uke cannot escape. He submits by stamping with his right foot on the mat.

Tori and Uke return to their positions.
